A password generator should make a strong password and then get out of the way. That is the whole idea.
What it is
password.so is a free set of tools for making and checking passwords: a password generator, a passphrase generator, a PIN generator, a random string generator and a strength checker. It is run by Four Cents, a software company.
How it is built
- Every password is generated in your browser with the Web Crypto API, using unbiased selection. See how the generator works.
- There are no accounts, no cookies, no advertising and no analytics scripts.
- A strict content security policy blocks scripts from anywhere but this site.
- The only outside request any page can make is the optional breach check, which sends a 5 character hash prefix.
- Guidance follows primary sources, chiefly NIST SP 800-63B-4, and each guide lists its sources and the date they were checked.
What it does not do
password.so does not store passwords, so it is not a password manager. Use a dedicated password manager to keep the passwords you make here.
